INT. FURNITURE FAIRE

MILAN

MILAN

INTERNATIONAL FURNITURE FAIRE

AT THE SEAT OF THE LOMBARD PROVINCE GOVERNMENT, THE COURTYRAD OF PALAZZO ISIMBARDI, HAS BEEN PROVIDED AN EXIBIHITION FOR THE FURNITURE FAIR IN MILAN. FOUR CUSTOMIZED XXL TULIP UMBRELLAS IN SIZE OF 8x8m AND A SPECIAL HEIGHT OF 8m WERE ASSEMBLED IN THE COURTYARD. VISITORS WERE OVERWHELMED BY THE COMBINATION OF THE ARCHES AND RENAISSANCE ARCHITECTURE OF THE HIGH-TECH UMBRELLAS. ONE TRULY AMAZING FEATURE OF THESE UMBRELLAS IS THE ABILITY TO COLLECT AND REDIRECT RAIN WATER

CAMEL AND BOTTLENECK

The Renaissance-Palazzo architecture in Milan city center provided a great logistical challenge. Narrow entrances, narrow streets and the strictest conservation of monuments and historic buildings made the construction of four tulip umbrellas XXL with special heights from up to 8 m an almost insoluble challenge. In the Palazzo Isimbardi, the seat of the Lombard provincial government in the heart of the Milan city centre, created a truly amazing display during the Milan furniture fair in April, 2010 in a spectacular exhibition of several furniture manufacturers and design partners. The tailor-made installation of the 8 x 8 m tulip were constructed with the greatest precision, down to the very centimeter to compliment the inner courtyard and the arch-shaped Renaissance arcades. Pure architectural harmony was the result of marrying high-tech architecture with beautiful umbrellas. The element of surprise was overhelming for many visitors.

AREA EXPANSION THROUGH WEATHER PROTECTION

By installing Tulip umbrellas the city was able to maximize usage and enjoyment of the courtyard area, while protecting valuable exhibits from the elements. Tulip umbrellas of this size require a extremely solid anchorage. Of course this requires exact planning and careful conversion on the building site. MDT proved extraordinarily competent at the integration of these large umbrellas, in a very challenging environment.
