MDT-tex is delighted to announce an exciting collaboration with Grimshaw Architects, London as part of Clerkenwell Design Week (19 - 21 May, LONDON). The two firms have developed a super light-weight modular canopy system, which will form a temporary pavilion in the heart of Clerkenwell at St. James’Churchyard.
The umbrella-like canopy system consists of complex geometries that connect together to form a flexible pavilion, with a unique shape that can be adjusted to suit the constraints of its environment. Typologically we have defined a new class of canopy system that offers both modular shape flexibility with the engineering advantages of a unified structure. The system can be used independently for events, for waterproof walkways or annexed to buildings or marquees to deal with fluctuations in crowd size. Drainage takes place via a series of central supporting columns, allowing the interconnected canopy structures to tessellate endlessly in a flexible variety of configurations. Assembly time is considerably reduced compared to existing canopy systems, making them ideal for events and ceremonies.
